Chris Pratt Has A Thoughtful Answer When Fan Questions Jurassic World Plot Point

Chris Pratt holding rifle in Jurassic World

If you ever find yourself is a situation where dinosaurs are running rampant, naturally it doesn’t hurt to have a firearm on hand for protection. Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady was fortunate enough to be armed during the events of Jurassic World, but four years after that movie’s release, a fan has noted that the gun Owen carries around would not be enough to take down the main prehistoric threat, the Indominus Rex. Pratt responded to said fan with the following:

Owen Grady wields a Marlin Model 1895SBL lever-action rifle in Jurassic World, which is outfitted with a scope and, as Chris Pratt alluded to in his tweet, uses .45-70 rounds. It’s unclear if Pratt just chose this gun all on his own or if it was one of a few selections set before him, but either way, considering Owen’s profession as Jurassic World’s velociraptor handler, it makes sense he’d use that firearm in case one of his raptors starts causing trouble and he can’t talk them down.

Unfortunately, as Chris Pratt admitted, such a gun wouldn’t be that useful against the Indominus Rex, which escaped its enclosure early on into Jurassic World and is responsible for unleashing the wave of chaos that ultimately destroyed the eponymous theme park. But with the way things played out, the rifle had nothing to do with this hybrid dinosaur’s demise.

Although the Indominus Rex briefly established dominance over the velociraptor pack that Owen Grady raised, during Jurassic World’s climax, he was able to reestablish control over the remaining raptors and used them to attack ol’ Indy. Blue was the only member of the trio who survived, but she worked with everyone’s favorite T-rex, Rexy, to push Indy to the lagoon where the Mosasaurus lived, and that beast dragged Indy to a watery grave.

When it comes to the gigantic dinosaurs, whether they’re a natural species or a genetically-engineered monstrosity, guns aren’t going to that useful, but in the long run, you’re better off having a firearm to increase your chances of survival against the smaller dinosaurs. And following the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, anything that can help even the scales even slightly against these creatures is necessary.

At the end of the 2018 sequel, the dinosaurs brought to the United States were freed from the Lockwood estate. So now rather than dinosaurs being a threat contained to an island or two, they’re now running free around the mainland, and as we saw in the short film Battle at Big Rock, they’re already starting to cause trouble. And throw in how rogue factions have their own dinosaur DNA to work with, and Earth’s dinosaur population could drastically increase.

All this leads to the forthcoming Jurassic World 3, and while Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady and Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire Dearing are confirmed to return, we don’t know what they’ll specifically be up to yet. What we do know is they won’t be the only familiar faces around for the threequel, as Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum will all reprise their respective Jurassic Park roles, and Fallen Kingdom actors Justice Smith and Daniella Pineda will also return.

Jurassic World 3 rampages into theaters on June 11, 2021, so keep checking back with CinemaBlend for more coverage on its progression. For now, plan next year’s silver screen experiences with our 2020 release schedule.
