Disneyland Resort has only been open for business since the end of April, but the theme park resort is moving quickly to get back to normal, much faster than other parks that opened sooner. We already knew that tomorrow, June 15, was going to be a big day at Disneyland Resort. It has been officially marked as the day the California economy "reopens." Out of state guests are now welcome to visit Disneyland, and the park has now conformed that, in addition, vaccinated guests will not be required to wear masks.
Masks will not be required indoors or outside for guests who are fully vaccinated. However, there will also be no verification of vaccination status, so guests will simply be asked to attest that they are in compliance with the rules, however they may apply to them. The one exception will be when traveling on official Disneyland transportation. The Toy Story parking lot will reopen on June 18 and when it does, all guests, regardless of vaccination, will need to wear a mask when traveling on the bus between the lot and the park. This is the same way the rules currently work at Walt Disney World.
While Disneyland was forced to wait to reopen for almost an entire year longer than most other parks, it now appears to be moving at about the same speed when it comes to reducing restrictions. The decision to eliminate masks tomorrow is maybe not too surprising. While Disneyland has been voluntarily moving slower than other California parks, like Universal Studios Hollywood, which has been allowing vaccinated out-of-state guests for several weeks, certainly we would still expect Disneyland to reduce restrictions as quickly as possible.
Of course, it's not hard to imagine that most masks will be gone tomorrow, regardless of whether people are vaccinated or not. Most people who want to be vaccinated likely have been and many of those who are choosing not to probably don't care much for mask mandates either way. The only exception will be children who are too young to be vaccinated. We can expect that Disneyland will still keep an eye on young kids to be sure they're keeping their masks on. It's unclear at this point when those under 12 will have the ability to be vaccinated.
While it's certainly been strange visiting Disney Parks during this period, and I've been to both Walt Disney World and Disneyland in the last few months, the fact is that everything I've seen gives me confidence that if Disney is making this call, they believe it's safe, not simply financially beneficial. An outbreak based in the parks, especially now, would be a very bad look and one can be sure Disney would not take that risk.
