The original Snow White and the Huntsman was a successful box office film, but it left many in the theater feeling something was missing. The sequel, The Huntsman: Winter’s War, looks to be trying to make up for it by offering enough action and magical effects to cover two films. If you’re looking for a movie that will bring all the adventure of a traditional summer blockbuster, Winter’s War may have everything you’re looking for. Check out the new trailer below.
If one evil queen with magic powers wasn’t enough for you, The Huntsmen: Winter’s War provides you with two, as Emily Blunt joins Charlize Theron as the wicked queen’s sister, Freya. Actually, it doesn’t look like Freya is evil here, yet we have a hard time viewing her as good, either, based on what we’ve seen. If you wanted more action, then Chris Hemsworth gets a partner who appears to be his equal in Jessica Chastain. The other thing the new trailer gives us is what might be the first joke in the franchise. Does Hemsworth’s Huntsman have a plan? Yes. Is it a good plan? No. The original film focused very heavily on its grim setting, so there wasn’t a lot of room for humor. This time the filmmakers look to be making Winter’s War a bit lighter. While this won’t appeal to every film viewer, it may very well turn on those that were turned off by the original.

The other thing this trailer teaches us is that Chris Hemsworth and Jessica Chastain won’t be the only ones standing up to Charlize Theron’s evil queen. The trailer specifically makes a reference to a "team" that will rise against the wicked. This is where the dwarfs that we meet here apparently come in. We may be getting some new dwarf characters as several of the actors from the original film were either unable or unwilling to return for this new chapter. While most of this story is designed to be a prequel, it’s unclear how much of it will actually connect to Snow White and the Huntsman, though that may also be intentional.

The Huntsman: Winter’s War isn’t technically a "summer blockbuster" as it’s being released just about a month from now, on April 22, but with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice flying into theaters on Friday, the first big movie season of the year is basically about to start. Are you planning to see Winter’s War? Let us know in the comments below if this is a sequel you’ve been waiting for.
