An Avengers: Infinity War Secret May Have Just Slipped Out, Here's What we Know

Now that Captain America: Civil War has been out in North America for, like an entire 12 hours, it’s time to turn our attention to the next big Avengers movie, Infinity War, or whatever it’s going to end up being called. One of the big questions about the movies has been exactly who will or won’t be appearing in the films. While we can expect many of the Avengers that we know and love to be there, some think that the Russo Brothers may have just confirmed something big, that Captain Marvel will be in Avengers: Infinity War.

The Russo Brothers, who just finished directing Captain America: Civil War, and will be jumping headlong into the two-part Infinity War before long, were attending an event at the Smithsonian Institute Thursday night when they were speaking about the upcoming Avengers films. At some point, Captain Marvel’s name came up and, according to Comicbook.com a fan pounced on it, asking if they were confirming Captain Marvel’s presence.

One of the brothers tried to cover, saying they meant "Captain Barvel," who is a totally different character. These are not the droids you’re looking for, move along.

While this looks like a huge spoiler, we’re not sure it’s quite that obvious. The Captain Marvel standalone movie is set for release in between the two parts of Avengers: Infinity War, and Marvel President Kevin Feige recently told our own Eric Eisenberg that we would not be seeing Carol Danvers in any MCU films prior to her own. Since the Russos have always been pretty honest with fans and media, if they don’t want us to know something they just don’t say, we tend to take them at their at word.

Based on that information, we’re guessing that we can look forward to seeing Captain Marvel appear in the second part of the Infinity War films, but probably not the first. It’s possible, we’d say likely, that when the Russos talk about the Infinity War, they’re looking at the two films as a single, larger story, so if the Russos say Captain Marvel will be there, they mean the next story arc, not necessarily the next movie.

What do you think? Will we see Captain Marvel before Captain Marvel? Was this a real slip up, or a misdirection?
