Lil Kim Names Daughter Royal Reign, Rate Her Choice

Lil Kim is a mother for the first time! The popular rapper and former flame of the late Notorious BIG gave birth to her first child this week. The little girl was born this morning at 9:58 AM in New Jersey. She weighed in at 6 pounds, 5 ounces and by all accounts, the delivery and everything with it went swimmingly. As for the name, it’s proving to be a little bit divisive.

According to US Magazine, Lil Kim decided to name the bouncing baby girl Royal Reign. Obviously, people are used to celebrities going a little outside the box when it comes to naming their children, but even taking into account that eccentricity, Royal Reign is a bit of a shock.

On the one hand, naming your kid “Royal” is a serious power move. It takes the rap culture’s obsession with money and status to the next level, and it imparts a hyper-confidence into the little girl. She’ll need to grow up with a chip on her shoulder or she’ll never last. On the other hand, naming your kid “Royal Reign” is kind of weird because she’s factually not royalty. She could growup to be the most educated, prim and proper woman in North America, and if she doesn’t marry into a royal family, her name is just a straight up lie.

Pop Blend’s sincerest thoughts go out to the little girl and her parents. We’re all wishing the family nothing but health and happiness, but still, that doesn’t mean we’re all going to agree on the name. What do you think? Are you feeling the name Royal Reign, or do you think it was a poor decision by Lil Kim? Figure out where you stand and vote in the poll below…
