Jessica Simpson's Fiance Eric Johnson Already Proclaimed Best Father

It has been less than a week since Jessica Simpson and her fiancé Eric Johnson welcomed in their daughter Maxwell Drew, but that brief sample window hasn’t stopped the combination singer and actress’ friends from making wild claims about the Yale educated former football player’s parental competence. The hulking six foot, three inch father apparently has a knack for calming his newborn down, and this has been taken as a sign he’s “the best dad”.

Speaking to People, the anonymous source close to the family also said Johnson has been patiently doting on his soon-to-be wife and is very attentive to the needs of little Maxwell.

"Eric is amazing. He is involved with every single thing, and Maxwell adores him. Whenever she cries, he picks her up and holds her in his arms, and she immediately stops crying. It's the cutest thing."

The cynic in me would respond to the aforementioned quote by saying anyone can be a good parent for four days. It’s when the sleepless nights start piling up and attention alone doesn’t alleviate crying that the true parental virtuosos separate themselves from the average Joes and the awful fathers. Luckily, the optimist in me would say early attention is obviously a great sign and all new parents should go into child-rearing feeling like they’re succeeding beyond their own lofty expectations.

The best father in the world might be an unattainable goal to shoot for, but falling short and being a very good father is certainly nothing to be ashamed over. We’ll keep our fingers crossed the good fortune continues into Maxwell’s adolescence.
