Kelly Clarkson Prefers To Avoid Alien Costumes Onstage

Kelly Clarkson’s always had a pretty laid-back fashion mentality. Perhaps this is because she was a pop star before newer singers like Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj changed the game with avant garde styles and over-the-top makeup. Or perhaps it is just her personality. The trendy onstage fashion might work for newer singers, but Clarkson prefers comfort over looks when she is making an appearance onstage.

“I don’t want to wear no stiletto. I am not a model and I am not Beyonce. It is not going to happen.”

The veteran singing competitor now has a new show, Duets, which premiered on ABC last week. During promotion for the new singing competition vehicle, the 30 year-old stressed to People she plans to impart her own fashion advice on contestant Jordan Meredith.

“I need her to be comfortable on stage and people are pushing her to wear something else and that is not our focus. Especially in a competition you need to be comfortable and confident.”

Despite hoping her Duets partner will follow in her footsteps, Clarkson is still pretty open to what other people can pull off.

“Sometimes I turn on awards shows and pop stars are wearing alien costumes. I’m like, ‘That’s cool for you but ain’t no way in hell someone is going to convince me to wear that on stage.’”

While I’m sure the occasional extravagant pop star show can be a fun time for audiences, I actually find it refreshing Clarkson sticks to her traditional guns and gives a pleasant vocal performance without all the performance art. I guess we won’t be seeing blue hair on the singer any time soon.
