If you've been starving for Game of Thrones news to come down the pipeline, we have some exciting tidbits for you this week. HBO's fantasy drama has just cast two more British actors, and while the characters they will be playing are a bit of a mystery at this point, it's just nice to hear Game of Thrones is casting for Season 7 in earnest. The new Game of Thrones characters will be played by Joseph Quinn and Paul Ward.
Joseph Quinn is mostly known for Dickensian, but in Game of Thrones he'll play a character named Koner. That character currently has no counterpart in George R.R. Martin's fictional works, and no casting description came with the announcement, per Watchers on the Wall. Other new GOT actor Paul Ward has taken bit parts in Penny Dreadful and Vikings in the past; we're not certain what role he will inhabit.
Normally, by this point in the year, we've heard about a slew of upcoming castings and returning characters on Game of Thrones. However, things have been unusually quiet on the Game of Thrones front this fall. Part of this may have to do with the fact the series delayed production this season, and part of this may have to do with the fact that the HBO drama is nearing the end of its run, and fewer new characters are being added. Still, we have heard of a few characters that will play a part in Season 7. A lot of these are general roles, including a general, a priest, a gate guard and a lovely lady.
Jim Broadbent was also signed on for Game of Thrones Season 7 about a month ago, but it's unlikely he'll be playing any of the general characters. He's set to play a "significant" role, although details are being kept under wraps. Earlier rumors also suggested Angela Lansbury might join the show, but those were quickly debunked.
Season 7 of Game of Thrones started filming in September, which is honestly pretty late for the series, and as noted prior, might be one of the reasons we are hearing casting news so late. Fewer episodes are also going to be produced for the upcoming season and for Season 8, which is expected to be the show's last.
