ABC brought The Bachelorette back this summer for Season 13, and viewers have gotten three episodes of amorous action so far with leading lady Rachel Lindsay dispensing the roses this time around. Unfortunately for fans who were hoping for the next installment of Season 13 on Monday, ABC is postponing the new episode for one big reason: the NBA Finals are kind of a big deal.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are facing off against the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals for the third time in three years, and the stakes are high for basketball fans all over the country. Unless the Warriors sweep the Cavs in four, Game 5 will air at 9 p.m. ET on Monday. ABC has chosen simply to move the next episode of The Bachelorette back by a week, even if the series doesn't go to Game 5. Basketball or no basketball, TVGuide confirms that there will be no new Bachelorette on Monday. A rerun will air in the show's regular 8 p.m. time slot.
I'm not sure how much viewer overlap there is between The Bachelorette and the NBA Finals, but the postponement isn't the biggest TV tragedy. The new episode hasn't been cancelled, so it's not like we'll miss a week of Rachel Lindsay being wooed by a pack of hunky men. Hopefully the Cavaliers will catch up with the Warriors and make the 2017 NBA Finals an event worth postponing primetime for. The two teams went to seven games in the 2016 NBA Finals, with the Cavs coming from a three-game deficit to defeat the Warriors and make history. Cavs fan or Warriors fan, there was no denying that it was an exciting series. If The Bachelorette is going to be pushed back, at least let it be pushed back for something good.
Of course, Season 13 of The Bachelorette has been pretty exciting in its own ways as well. This is the first season that the leading lady is African American, and Rachel Lindsay has been an engaging star throughout the first three episodes. Sure, there's been some negative buzz about The Bachelorette as well, but all things considered, Season 13 is shaping up to be another entertaining way to spend summer evenings.
