The Cute Way Netflix Helped Set Up A Couple's Marriage Proposal

It's no industry secret that lots of couples watch Netflix together. Otherwise, "Netflix and chill" might not have ever become a thing for older people to say awkwardly. For Conor and Kamela, though, the streaming service is more than just an entertainment time-killer; it is a major touchstone for their relationship. Enough so that Conor and Netflix enlisted the help of Santa Clarita Diet stars Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant to craft a crazy-cute and surprising wedding proposal. Check it out below, and be kind of jealous.

While my own engagement kickoff was memorable in its own right, I can't deny wishing that I could have somehow looped Netflix into making it happen. Of course, had I met up with Timothy Olyphant and Drew Barrymore, I would likely have just started talking about Justified and Donnie Darko, soon forgetting what the actual point of the meet-up was. Ah, true love.

In Conor's case, he probably couldn't have hoped for a better reaction from his girlfriend (and soon-to-be wife) Kamela. As the video shows, she was seemingly quite into the faux plan to take part in a reality show, especially since it also involved the stars of her favorite Netflix show at the moment, the ghoulishly dark comedy Santa Clarita Diet, which debuted its first season earlier this year. While it would have been fun to see this mini-plot drawn out in ways that made Kamela even more suspicious of what was happening, Conor's purpose was perhaps more noble than just trying to make people like me laugh.

As Kamela sipped from a glass of what appears to be wine, Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant are seen on screen talking about how complicated marriage can be, which is some masterful foreshadowing on everyone's part. Once Conor showed up in the video, though, Kamela realized something was amiss, and her oft-used reaction of "Shut the fuck up!" was as good a sign as any that she did not see this surprise proposal coming. Much as Olyphant's Santa Clarita Diet character was shocked by a lot within that show.

Once Video Conor flipped the proposal process over to Real Life Conor, that's when Kamela's emotions started to get the better of her, as she likely realized that her life was about to change forever. And in front of Netflix crew members, no less. Thankfully, Kamela's answer was a positive one, and she and Conor will hopefully have a happy and wonderful marriage that does not result in either of them turning into a zombie and having to prepare very particular meals for one another.

For those looking for a bloody good time, Santa Clarita Diet Season 1 is currently available to stream on Netflix, with Season 2 coming at some point in 2018.
