Netflix Reveals A Series Of Unfortunate Events Season 2 First Look And Release Date

The first day of 2018 has been an exciting one for Netflix as the company dropped a trailer for a deliciously dark comedy in the midst of rumors it could soon be acquired by Apple. The service is making headlines thanks a new video appearing today that showcases Neil Patrick Harris dressed up as his character Count Olaf from A Series Of Unfortunate Events. After a bit of rambling, Olaf offers up a sneak peek of Season 2 of which leads to the revelation that the series will return Friday, March 30. Take a look!

It's certainly exciting news for fans of A Series Of Unfortunate Events that Season 2 looks to retell the tale of Books 5-9. Beyond the footage that references the source material for Season 2, astute fans will recognize that Count Olaf's segment has a pretty delightful easter egg that those who have read The Ersatz Elevator are sure to understand. For those that haven't been able to spot it yet, check out that statue of the red herring underneath the staircase.

The first look at Season 2 of A Series Of Unfortunate Events also reveals some other interesting things such as "the vile village," which is seen briefly in the sequence in which the children are being chased by an angry mob. We see a bunch of crow feathers (which were present in the Count Olaf intro) as well as the first look at Gunther, who varies a bit in the look he was described to have in the novels. No pinstripes are seen on the suit of the Olaf in disguise, nor the monocle to hide his unibrow. He still looks pretty different compared to the original look, so it's likely the alteration in his appearance won't affect the story heavily.

With Season 3 of A Series Of Unfortunate Events supposedly unofficially announced, it would appear from the early release date for Season 2 that the series could conclude in the early months of 2019. That's ideal for Lemony Snicket (a.k.a. Daniel Handler), as he remarked nearly a year ago that he'd prefer to wrap the series before any of the current actors and actresses begin to age out of their roles. It looks as though he may get his wish, as even if the team hasn't started already filming for Season 3, this early 2018 release will mean the folks behind the scenes can get back to work sooner than later.

Season 2 of A Series Of Unfortunate Events will arrive on Netflix on Friday, March 30 at 12:01 a.m. PT.
