After Big Little Lies was such a huge success on HBO, it wasn't a huge surprise that the subscription cable network signed on for a second season of the hit show. The amount of star power will be amped up in Season 2 as well, with Meryl Streep joining the cast. Just a few days ago, we heard that Reese Witherspoon was able to throw an ice cream cone at Streep during filming, and now not only has Witherspoon confirmed the moment, she also had a great reaction to getting to throw ice cream at a film icon. Per Witherspoon:
You gotta think filming the "Bend and Snap" scene was up there, amiright? While Reese Witherspoon coyly did not divulge all of her top five career moments, she did tell ET at the Shine On With Reese premiere that she really enjoyed cutting loose on the set of Big Little Lies Season 2. Paparazzi caught the show while filming a short while ago, but the rest of us plebeians will get to see the big moment in full video glory when Big Little Lies returns to the schedule in 2019.
Reese Witherspoon previously confirmed she hit Streep with the cone on Twitter, noting to a fan who hoped she'd hit the actress,
We've known for a while that Meryl Streep will be joining the HBO drama, playing none other than Perry's mother Mary Louise Wright. The character of Perry died at the end of the first season of the show, as a mystery that unfolded across multiple episodes finally played out. Wright will join the fold following her son's death, and we've heard she'll be concerned about the state of her grandchildren. We'll have to wait and see how that storyline plays out.
Along with Meryl Streep, pretty much all the fan-favorite cast members will be back for Season 2. Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Zoë Kravitz, and Laura Dern are all signed on for the new episodes and I'm not sure if I'm more excited about Renata being Renata or about what Madeline and Bonnie's relationship will be like now that they are in on a huge secret. Perhaps, we'll finally delve into Bonnie's backstory, as well.
Season 2 should be really exciting. Author Liane Moriarty worked with HBO to develop the plotlines for the new season, but given there is no book sequel, there are so many questions surrounding the new episodes. It's sort of like when Game of Thrones finally got away from the book plotlines, you know? Only there will be fewer dragons. We'll let you know as soon as Big Little Lies gets an official Season 2 premiere date, but in the meantime you can take a look at what is coming this fall with our full schedule.
