Shadowhunters' Final Episodes Got Spoiled For Fans By A Prop Auction

shadowhunters season 3

The road to Shadowhunters' final episodes has been marked with potholes, with the biggest obviously being Freeform's decision to cancel the supernatural drama. Adding insult to that injury was another major mishap for fans, in which a large-scale online auction selling off Shadowhunters props inadvertently revealed spoilers for the final episodes. Some of those props were apparently not yet meant to be seen by anyone else's eyes.

On August 30, the company 403 Auction went live with a "phenomenal sale of quality items" from Shadowhunters' run on Freeform. These sought-after offerings include rubber Soul Sword props, a myriad of other bladed weapons, gun cases, statues, dishes, light fixtures, chairs, signs and many other items used during the various seasons' productions. Unfortunately, the giant list of props also included several items that will be very important to the second half of Season 3, and it's possible that details from the finale itself were spoiled to interested parties seeking out special Shadowhunters memorabilia.

If there's a silver lining here, it's that the more spoilery props were later taken off the site by the auction company, presumably after those in charge were notified about the errors in judgment. As noted by PureFandom, it's probable that showrunner Todd Slavkin had a big something to do with the items' absence, as he was made aware of the problem early on and reached out about it.

No worries about any of those spoilers getting detailed here, but one prop that got some attention is a letter supposedly written by Katherine McNamara's Clary. Without going into who's on the receiving end or what's in the letter's body, it's worth noting that it may point to how the writers aimed to keep the story going for a potential Season 4 if another network stepped in. Todd Slavkin has previously kept fans' worries at bay by saying the finale wasn't rushed, and that's it's beautiful. So we'll have to see how things play out next year.

The admirable efforts of the #SaveShadowhunters campaign have so far not been rewarded with another network or streaming service throwing their hat in the ring for another batch of episodes. The fanbase's optimism hasn't been diminished, however, and the fight continues to try and make Season 4 happen in some way, shape or (free)form.

At this point, Freeform still hasn't announced when the second half of Shadowhunters' third season will air, but we do know it's set to debut in early 2019, so stay tuned for more details. In the meantime, there are lots of other great shows on the way that can be found in our fall TV premiere schedule.
