Could The Orville's Halston Sage Return After Landing A New Show On Fox?

The Orville Halston Sage Alara Kitan Fox

The Orville fans were surprised when Halston Sage's Lt. Alara Kitan left the show after Season 2, Episode 3. She did return for the Season 2 finale, though, giving fans hope that she wasn't completely done with the comedy. Is there any chance we'll see her in The Orville Season 3? That's assuming Fox does renew the Seth MacFarlane show for Season 3 (as it is expected to).

Well, it turns out Fox just picked up Halston Sage's new show Prodigal Son for a full season in 2019-2020. So she may not have time for The Orville Season 3, beyond maybe a quick cameo, even if she did want to return again.

Tom Payne (The Walking Dead) and Michael Sheen have the lead roles in Prodigal Son as Malcolm Bright and his serial killer father Dr. Martin Whitly. Halston Sage has the series regular role of Ainsley Whitly, Bright’s younger sister, who is described as a successful TV journalist with a good sense of humor. She's said to be more "normal" than Bright -- I guess considering their father is notorious serial killer -- and she's also an emotional spark plug.

Scandal alum Bellamy Young stars as mother Jessica Whitly, described by Deadline as an elegant, sarcastic WASPy New Yorker. Since she's the wife of a serial killer, she's a disgraced former member of high society, but she refuses to hide from her truth, and she wishes her son Malcolm Bright would do the same.

Yes, That Was The Vampire Diaries' Candice King As An Alien On The Orville

Fox is describing Prodigal Son as "a fresh take on a crime franchise with a provocative and outrageous lead character and a darkly comedic tone." Here's more about the show, which co-stars Lou Diamond Phillips, Aurora Perrineau, and Frank Harts:

Malcolm Bright knows how killers think. Why? His father was one of the best, a notorious serial killer called 'The Surgeon.' That’s why Bright is the best criminal psychologist around; murder is the family business. He uses his twisted genius to help the NYPD solve crimes, while dealing with a somewhat manipulative mother, an annoyingly normal sister, a homicidal father still looking to bond with his prodigal son and his own constantly evolving neuroses.

It does sound like Halston Sage is moving on from The Orville, at least for now. But fans are not ready to move on. We should be hearing about Season 3's status any minute now. Maybe even before you get a chance to read this. Keep up with all TV cancellation and renewal news with our handy guide.

Gina Carbone

Gina grew up in Massachusetts and California in her own version of The Parent Trap. She went to three different middle schools, four high schools, and three universities -- including half a year in Perth, Western Australia. She currently lives in a small town in Maine, the kind Stephen King regularly sets terrible things in, so this may be the last you hear from her.
