The Brides is gearing up to be the next must-watch TV show with the awesome cast it’s putting together. Earlier this month, the pilot, which was ordered by ABC, added Suits alum Gina Torres as one of Dracula’s brides. Recently, it was announced that Gotham alum Erin Richards is also joining the cast in a lead role alongside Katherine Reis, Sophia Tatum, Chris Mason, and Timeless vet Goran Visnjic.
Erin Richards (seen in the photo above) has been cast in the role of Renée Pélagie, one of the three brides of Dracula, joining Katherine Reis and Gina Torres to round out the series’ leading roles. According to Variety, Renée is described as being the head of a New York-based modeling agency and is “known for her torrid affairs with her beautiful female models.” However, prior to her job at the agency, Renée was married to the Marquis de Sade before allowing Dracula to turn her into a vampire.
The actress played Barbara Kean on Fox’s Gotham during its five-season run and even directed an episode of the show, as well as an episode of CBS’ God Friended Me. On The Brides, Erin Richards’ character will contend with maintaining her wealth, legacy, and navigating her very non-traditional family in this modern-day reimagining of Dracula.
Meanwhile, Katherine Reis has been cast to play Lily Stevens, the youngest of the three Dracula brides. Per Deadline, Lily is an aspiring singer whose relationship with a reporter “threatens to tear apart her marriage to her ‘sisters.’” Before being turned by Dracula and becoming immortal, Lily was living in 19th century London around the same time as Jack the Ripper.
Rounding out the cast of The Brides is Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionist star Chris Mason as real estate bigwig Roland Grant; Sophia Tatum as up-and-coming model Justine Strang, who befriends Renée and shares a secret history with Dracula; and Goran Visnjic as Count Dracula himself.
Personally, I think these casting choices are excellent and I’m especially excited to see what Gina Torres’ Cleo will be up to, and what the dynamic will be like between her and the other two brides of Dracula. As for Goran Visnjic as Dracula? Well, I can only speak for myself, but I think it’s perfect casting. Just check out that photo of him right above this paragraph. Dashing, right?
The Brides pilot is being written by Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’s Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who is also on board to executive produce, with Maggie Riley set to direct. The pilot has yet to get a series order, and while I’d wager that ABC is bound to pick The Brides up to series, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
