The Clicker Gets Lost

Okay, if you haven’t watched Lost in the past couple of weeks, then don’t read this column. Don’t whine to me that you didn’t know Locke spent 40 days and nights in the belly of a whale. Oh crap, sorry about that. I won’t give away that Jack is always bitchy because Scott Wolf won’t return his phone calls. Dammit, I did it again. Oh well, read the latest Clicker and get ready for “Lost!”

*****

“Lost” showed us again last week why it’s one of the best dramas on television. Hell, I rank it as one of the top 5 dramas of the past fifteen years. With strong characters, writing, and the balls to kill off anybody, “Lost” captivates millions of viewers each week. Going into last week, I was pretty sure that Ana Lucia was going to die. For starters, the show was entitled “Two for the Road” and she was getting the “flashback” treatment. The episode was quite strong with a major storyline of Ana Lucia being attacked by Henry Gale and Michael’s return. We also had the standard Hurley side plot that's usually a time filler with a smidge of comic relief. Boy was I wrong this week. With about ten minutes left in the episode, I looked at my friend and said, “I don’t think Gale’s going to kill Ana. Somebody else is.” When we got to the scene and Michael walked out, I felt chills. I knew what was going to happen. Still, “Lost” wouldn’t be, well, “Lost” if that’s all that happened. Libby (Cynthia Watros) took a bullet too from Michael too. This one wasn’t intentional though. That moment, not Ana’s death, made the episode great. Libby was involved in Hurley’s courtship the entire episode until she went to get blankets. I never thought she was going back to the hatch. I just thought of the beach. When she said “Michael” I blurted out “Holy Crap” for the second time in 15 seconds. Oh, but they didn’t stop there. Michael shoots himself in the arm? Why? Why? Why?

Well, the “Lost-ies” out there have their theories. Mine is that Michael has been promised Walt in return for something. Is it for the return of Henry Gale? The murder of Ana Lucia? Leading the gang into a trap? Personally, I think it’s all of the above. Gale probably matters the least since even he knows that he’s as good as dead for failing in his mission. But to properly convince everyone that Gale did the Ana and Libby deeds, you got to frame somebody. We might as well let Gale out and make him the fall guy.

Michael has said all along he’d do anything for his son. I can even say I understand his rationale. This will permanently change him as a person. Even if he gets his son back, what kind of person will he be? I love the guts to do this but I don’t want Michael off the show nor do I want Walt to lose another parent. But that’s why I’m not a writer on a great show like this. I wouldn’t have the testicular fortitude to go against the normal tripe you see on poorly written shows like “ER”, or “7th Heaven”.

Were Rodriquez and Watros punished for their real world DUIs? The creators of "Lost" and the actors say no. Who cares? “Lost” has shown us that if something works for the overall good of the show, it will happen.

What’s next on "Lost"? I’m not going to give away spoilers but I expect we’ll be seeing the end of at least another major character not to mention a prominent locale. Sorry, I can’t say anymore for fear that Head Honcho Josh Tyler will begin censoring this column.
