Fringe Premiere Promo Offers Its First Look At Actual Season 5 Footage, Etta!

The familiar theme throughout the buildup to the fifth and final season of Fringe has been "They are coming." The "they" in question are, of course, the Observers, but despite the repeated warnings, Fox had not released any new footage showing the much touted, but more or less unseen, invasion. Okay, to be fair, the consequences of said invasion have been documented, namely in “Letters of Transit," the nineteenth episode of last season, but before we head all the way back to the future of 2036, it looks like we'll be privy to some of the events in between.

It wasn't completely clear in “Letters of Transit" when exactly in their daughter Henrietta's life mom and dad disappeared, but Peter and Olivia do seem to at least get some time with "Etta" before things go south. Creepily, creepily south. Take a look at the first bit of footage, yes, actual footage, from Season 5 of Fringe.

After September lets us know that, indeed, "they are coming," we get a few seconds of what looks like the 2036 first glimpsed last season, with Walter roaming the wasteland in a bathrobe as well as Peter and Astrid doing some barb-wire-fence reconnaissance. Then we get a Terminator 2-esque "Judgment Day" moment when the Observers not only arrive but interrupt the idyllic day at the park for the Bishop-Dunham family. "Etta!" Fringe returns with the Season 5 premiere on Friday, September 28th at 9 p.m. ET on Fox. The series was created by J.J. Abrams, Roberto Orci, and Alex Kurtzman.
