Full Season For Pushing Daisies

With all of the recent reports about the impending writer’s strike and the lackluster ratings the new fall series’ have been getting, I’ve been worried about the fates of some of my new favorite shows. Luckily for me, and I’m sure for a lot of you out there as well, Pushing Daisies has just been picked up for a full season.

As far as I’m concerned, Daisies is not only the best new show of the season, but is quickly becoming one of the best series on television. However, many of the things I love about it (the originality, whimsy, focus on pastry and the occasional show-tune) are the same things that make it a risky proposition for a weak fall schedule. While Daisies hasn’t been pulling in blockbuster numbers, it’s third episode, which aired this past Wednesday, won in the key 18-49 demographic in its timeslot. Not coincidentally, Private Practice, which airs after Pushing Daisies and also won its timeslot, is one of the few other freshman series that has snagged a full-season order.

With many networks taking only tentative steps toward full-season pickups and ordering three or four new episodes at a time, ABC’s support of Pushing Daisies is that much more remarkable. If you haven’t been watching the modern-day fairytale about the pie maker who brings back the dead, including his one true love whom he can never touch, get on it right now—it is that good. While you’re doing that, I’m going to put aside my “Save Pushing Daisies” pie-making campaign and focus on my "Save Life" fruit baskets.

Pushing Daisies airs Wednesdays at 8 pm on ABC.
