Geoff Stults Gets Lead In Bones Spinoff

Let me tell you why I like Bones. Almost every episode has the perfect amount of crime solving to personal life drama. I don’t want to spend an hour dissecting the ins and outs of each character’s marital situations, but I also need a little bit of that in order to get to know why the characters behave the way they do. Bones has found that perfect medium. I could tell you fifty facts about each one of the main characters, but it took me 6 seasons to learn all of it. If the new spinoff can find that same middle ground, chances are I’ll be setting the DVR, especially after today’s casting news.

With Green Mile star Michael Clarke Duncan already boarded as the second lead, speculation was running high as to who might end up with top billing. According to TV Line, producer and creator Hart Hanson has finally settled on his choice: Geoff Stults. While maybe not having the household appeal of a Michael Clarke Duncan, Stults is pretty recognizable, even if his name isn’t. You probably remember him from 7th Heaven or October Road.

Prior to the spinoff ever hitting air, Stults’ character, Walter Sherman, will be introduced in an episode of Bones. A military man like Booth, the two have a long and strained history together, but that won’t stop Bones from seeing him as a possible sexual option. Like Temperance Brennan, Sherman is a character based off a successful series of novels. His are known as The Locator, and they’re written by Richard Greener.

Bones airs on Fox after American Idol on Thursday nights. Not word yet on what timeslot the spinoff might take.
