Jon Snow On A Horse? Here's What We Know

There are Game of Thrones spoilers in this article along with plenty of other potential spoilers for upcoming episodes. Heads up before you delve in.

We’re heading into the second episode of Game of Thrones this weekend, and if there’s one thing we learned from the Season 6 premiere it’s that Jon Snow is absolutely and definitely dead. He spent most of the season premiere laid out on a slab, not breathing. However, that hasn’t stopped the rumors from persisting that Jon Snow will be back in some shape or form. Now, an enterprising young video maker has taken a look at footage from the upcoming episodes of Game of Thrones which shows a battle sequence happening later this season. In the video, there’s a young man who looks very much like on Jon Snow riding a horse. Check it out and see what you think.

Honestly, this video from BeforeISleepFilms is fairly lengthy, so if you don’t want to watch it all of the way through, I’ll give you the gist. In footage from Season 6 of Game of Thrones, we got to see some footage from what looks to be the major battle that showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have been teasing for quite some time. In this footage, a horse falls down and for a brief moment we get to see another rider on a horse in the background. This rider is wearing all black and is sporting a haircut similar to Jon Snow, with dark hair and curly locks. Of course, the image is a bit blurry and out of focus, so it’s difficult to tell whether that rider is a character of importance or some random extra who happened to have experience with riding horses.

Jon Snow rider

As I said, blurry, but it’s certainly not the wildest theory we’ve ever heard, considering some of the rumors and potential set evidence that has come out over the course of the last several months.

We are getting into some potential set spoilers in this paragraph, so bail now if you don’t want to go any deeper into this theory. Of all of the crazy Game of Thrones theories out there—and there are quite a few—a theory about Jon Snow coming back from the dead is actually not super unrealistic. While Game of Thrones has killed off a slew of prominent characters before, there is something about both Jon Snow’s potential lineage and Melisandre’s obsession with the young man that made his potential for a magical return from the dead less silly than it might seem otherwise. Throw in the fact that actor Kit Harington has kept his Jon Snow locks in recent months and that he was reportedly spotted on set filming a scene with Sansa Stark and it seems as if the character will definitely be back. Since he was reported to be a part of a major battle scene, too, that squares with the brief footage seen above.

Even if the character does come back, when and how this particular storyline will unfold still remains a mystery, and an exciting one. After all, Game of Thrones is even fond of flashbacks these days and we know visions from Bran will probably crop up. Nothing is outside the realm of possibility in the fantasy drama. While we wait, we can definitely say for certain that we will see Bran and a few other missing characters back on the drama tonight. Catch ‘em in action when Game of Thrones airs at 9 p.m. ET, only on HBO. And check out what else is coming up in Season 6, here.
