If I had to make a list of upcoming new shows that could probably use a bit of star power to boost interest, Fox’s New Girl wouldn’t be on it. Fox has been promoting the heck out of New Girl with so many clips, that I feel almost certain that anyone who has tuned in to Fox semi-regularly over the course of the summer might actually be able to piece together the entire pilot based on what’s been shown. Whether or not that’s the case, who knows? Regardless, what’s been shown has been smart and funny and a wonderful display of the kind of charismatic performance we can probably expect from star Zooey Deschanel on a weekly basis. New Girl looks like a hit. One Justin Long appearance on the series, if only for one episode, can only make it better. Fortunately, we’ll be getting three.

According to Deadline, Long has been tapped for a 3-episode arc on the series, and will show up in Episode 6. He’s set to play a music teacher named Paul, and a love interest to Jess (Deschanel). He’s adorable. She’s adorable. How can this not be a match made in heaven? Considering the show is about a newly single girl living with a bunch of guys, something tells me she doesn’t find her soul-mate in the first season. Still, it'll be fun to see how the relationship plays out.

Deadline mentions a “longstanding relationship” between Long and New Girl creator Liz Meriweather. While that may be the reason the stars have aligned to put Long in this series, I’m anticipating some real chemistry between Deschanel and Long when he shows up in the series.

New Girl premieres Tuesday, September 20th at 9/8c on Fox.
