Learn English With Ricky Gervais Video Has Karl Pilkington Teaching The Language

In Karl Pilkington, Ricky Gervais has found treasure and instead of hoarding it all for himself, he unselfishly has shared his boon with the world. Starting out as Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s radio show producer, Pilkington soon took to the microphone and that was the end of his days behind the scenes. Since then, Gervais has not only animated the legendary podcasts for HBO (The Ricky Gervais Show) but also sent the little round headed Manc around the world for An Idiot Abroad and cast him in the Emmy winner’s latest pet project at the BBC called Derek.

In his usual open style, Gervais turned to his website to provide his fans with updates on Derek’s development, which goes into production in two weeks, as well as share news about a new internet project called Learn English with Ricky Gervais. He recently finished editing the pilot of the series that features him and Pilkington trying to teach English to those who aren’t familiar with the language. The show will be subtitled in many languages to allow as many international, uh, students to watch. That’s right, Karl Pilkington spreading his knowledge to the world, can you imagine what he’d be like as a teacher? You don’t have to, take a look…

All of the cuts are rather funny but when Karl said, “a lot of English words can mean many things. Where. Where?” I may have spit on my screen. Gervais’ facial expression is perfect. The plan is to give the first episode of The Ricky Gervais Show to fans as a free download on iTunes before figuring out the final distribution strategy and cost per installment. With most of his internet projects, Gervais is keen on keeping the price at a minimum so sponsorship is something he’s looking into but, in his words, “even if we charge it will still only be a couple of quid.” Thanks to Gervais, Karl really is the gift that keeps on giving and I’m ready for my first lesson.

Learn English with Ricky Gervais starring Ricky Gervais and Karl Pilkington premieres on iTunes on August 14 for free.
