Louie Season 3 Teaser Is A Wry Homage To Woody Allen

Among the many, many amazing things about Louis C.K.'s FX series Louie is the fact that he edits the show himself on his laptop, meaning there can be virtually no turnaround time between shooting and putting the show on the air. So while we're accustomed to waiting more than a year for new seasons of great shows like Breaking Bad, Mad Men and 30 Rock, Louie will be returning to FX for Season 3 in June, just 9 months after the last episode of Season 2 aired in September. And to get you excited for the return of C.K.'s very specific brand of humor, he's released a teaser for the new season, which is an undeniable homage to one of the most famous New York movies of all time. Take a look below.

Even though he's not actually using George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue," the teaser is a clear homage to the opening scene of Woody Allen's Manhattan, in which his character goes on and on about the glory of his favorite city. For Louie, on the other hand, it's a beautiful city with a lot of pitfalls, and the ability to literally slap you in the face just when you're feeling good. It's a feeling that anyone in New York knows well, a city that's easy to romanticize when you're living in it, but also big and bruising enough to tear you down. Last winter I was crossing Broadway and marveling at the tiny snowflakes falling, the first of the season-- then had to quickly avoid stepping on the dead rat in the middle of the crosswalk.

Below is the opening scene of Manhattan if you need a refresher. The third season of Louie premieres June 28.
