Lucy Liu Is Headed For Southland

Fans of Lucy Liu and TNT’s Southland have even more reason to look forward to the series’ return next year. TNT announced today that Liu is on board to guest-star in the cop drama’s fourth season.

Lucy Liu’s made a name for herself on both the big and small screens. While she kicked ass in films like Charlie’s Angels and Kill Bill, she defined calm-intimidation as her character Ling (soft-L) in Ally McBeal. And those of us who’ve watched way too much Beverly Hills, 90210 may remember her for her brief appearance as Brandon’s summer replacement at the Peach Pit. It was one episode, and I’m not sure she does much more than smile in it, but it was a start and her career has certainly taken off since. Her other TV credits include Cashmere Mafia and Dirty Sexy Money.

According to TNT’s release, Liu is set to play a member of the LAPD in Southland’s fourth season. I’m not sure she’s ever played a role as a law enforcer on TV before, but since she’s proven she can handle tough roles, including an assassin in Kill Bill, I have no doubt that she’ll fit right into part.

Southland stars Michael Cudlitz, Shawn Hatosy, Regina King and Ben McKenzie and follows a group of on-the-job cops in Los Angeles. The drama series is set to resume with new episodes in January 2012. Liu is expected to appear throughout the season.
