The Office Announces Guest Stars For Series Finale

NBC has been busy shoring up stars for The Office’s epic Season 9 and series finale, and on Thursday the network announced some big names who will be returning or appearing in the hit comedy’s very last episode. Some of the names are expected and some are brand new; either way, if you want the finale to be a surprise, stop reading now.

The May 16 finale will feature the return of Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak, who both formerly wrote and starred in the series as Kelly and Ryan. While the two actors moved on to pursue other projects, with Kaling notably finding success with The Mindy Project on Fox, it’s no surprise they would want to come back and be part of the team for the finale. According to THR, Malcolm Barrett, Ed Begley Jr., Andy Buckley, Joan Cusack, Rachael Harris, Dakota Johnson, Matt Jones, Mike Schur, and Bobby Ray Shafer are also confirmed for the finale.

Despite months of rampant speculation, NBC made no mention of Steve Carell returning for the finale. The finale casting announcement obviously doesn’t mean a potential cameo or appearance is out. Carell did, after all, pop up on set while the finale was being shot. However, I wouldn’t say it’s a shoe-in that he will show up at this point. The Office will air regular episodes on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC for the next two weeks before airing the one-hour finale on May 16 at 9 p.m. ET.
