The Office's Brian Baumgartner Is Setting Up A New Comedy At ABC

Another Office alum is working on a new gig. This time it’s Brian Baumgartner, and he’ll be working with Office boss Greg Daniels on a new comedy for which he’ll play the lead role. ABC has picked up the single-camera project, which will be written by Parks & Recreation (another Daniels show) supervising producer Harris Wittels.

The comedy is currently untitled, but the main character has a name. Baumgartner will play Norman, a mid-level executive with an airline who is trying to find his way to the winner’s circle at just about anything in life. That’s the extent of the description Deadline has to offer on the new comedy. Baumgartner has been on The Office since day one, and with the series wrapping up this year it looks like he’ll be staying in his comfort zone – a workplace comedy with the same guy running the show.

Baumgartner will be joining several of his Office co-stars who have new projects on tap for next season. Two of them are keeping connections with the show as well. Rainn Wilson is involved in an Office spinoff where he’s working with Paul Lieberstein (formerly of The Office as well) and Craig Robinson is working on a comedy at NBC with Office writer Owen Ellickson. Angela Kinsey also has a put pilot commitment for a comedy at Fox where she’ll co-star with Rachael Harris. Another co-star from the show, Mindy Kaling, has already gone to on to a new Fox comedy The Mindy Project, which got a full season order earlier this month.
