There should be a lot of new and interesting television fodder headed to audiences during the spring of 2013. One of the new television programs that has garnered plenty of interest is Bates Motel, the upcoming prequel to Psycho set to air on A&E. While most cable and network stations have been pretty good about tossing out upcoming premiere dates, we’ve had to wait on Bates Motel. That is, until today, when A&E announced Bates Motel will join the network family on March 18.

Bates Motel has gotten a lot of buzz over the past several months. Some of this is due to the show’s connections with Hitchcock’s famous film, which follows the relation ship between Norman Bates, played by Freddie Highmore, and his mother, Norma, played by Vera Farmiga. The series looks to be a potentially nightmare-inducing origin story, with plenty of twists and turns. Additionally, A&E has been promoting the hell out of its new series, from sneak peaks to even creating a title sequence contest to get potential viewers invested.

According to Screen Crush, the news was announced earlier this morning at the Television Critics Association press tour, which is good news for fans of Highmore and Farmiga. The bad news is that release date means we are still two and a half months away from the premiere. I guess in the interim, we’ll just have to check out some of the other new shows different networks are putting. Luckily, TV Blend has a handy dandy guide for that.
