The Simpsons Spoofs Game Of Thrones Opening Sequence

Granted, this may just be me talking as a Game of Thrones fan, but this may be the best Simpsons couch-gag ever. Anyone who’s ever been a regular viewer of The Simpsons for just about any length of time knows that the series likes to change things up for its opening credits. Last night’s episode paid homage to HBO’s Game of Thrones, another series known for its excellent opening credits sequence. They Check it out ahead!?

This goes beyond a couch gag, as it isn't just the chalk board and the couch moment that got the GoT treatment. (Via NY Times), below is the opening credits for The Simpsons’ “Exit Through the Kwik-E-Mart.” As you’ll see, the music is very similar to the Game of Thrones opening theme song, and except for a three dimensional map of Westeros, we see various parts of Springfield popping up, complete with lots of mechanical wheels, while notable Springfield locations (Evergreen Terrace, Springfield Gorge, Burns Landing) are addressed on the map.

Love the three-eyed crows at the power plant. Nice touch, as was the big empty couch at the end.

Just for comparative purposes (and because I never get tired of watching this), here’s the Game of Thrones opening credits (from S1).

On a related note, in case you haven’t seen it already, there’s a new trailer for Season 2 of Game of Thrones. Check it out here! ?
