Though only two episodes in, The Walking Dead is already considered a phenomenon. It's premiere on Halloween night last Sunday was the biggest in AMC history and was watched by 3.3 million people in the key 18-49 demographic and 5.4 million in total. When I wrote up the numbers last week, I predicted that unless numbers dropped off severely in the second week, that we would likely see the series get picked up for a second season. Well, it didn't take long.
THR reports that AMC has decided to pick up The Walking Dead for another season following another immensely successful showing last night when 4.7 million tuned in to watch the second episode. Though the premiere season is only six episodes long, the second season will be more than twice the length at 13 episodes, the same as both Mad Men and Breaking Bad.
Always good to see good things happen to good shows. From what I've heard, the series only gets better from here on out and I personally can't wait to see what else they have in store. Big congratulations to Frank Darabont and everyone else involved in the production. You've earned it.
