As much as I still consider Punk’d a guilty pleasure, I’ve been sort of unimpressed with the over-the-top nature of some of the pranks we’ve seen so far. The revival of the MTV celebrity prank series already seems to embracing the “bigger is better” concept, which in the cast of last night’s episode, including a food truck blowing as part of a prank against Tyler, The Creator. Tyler’s reaction was good but over all, the stunt seemed like just that. A big stunt.
?The same could probably be said to some extent for the prank Bam Margera played against Jersey Shore’s Ronnie, and yet it played out really funny. Whether it’s the way the prank was orchestrated, or simply Ronnie’s reaction, it worked. Check it out below. Ronnie’s prank starts at about the 8 minute mark. You may be subjected to numerous ads before you get to it, but I think it’s worth the wait...
“On a scale of 1-10, how built?”
“Like a 9...”
? “On a scale of 1-10, how tan?”
“Like a 7...”
My theory on why the prank worked better than Tyler, The Creator’s was because it wasn’t so big that Ronnie couldn’t get past the “Is this really happening?!” surprise-reaction. And they got him to interact throughout the situation, rather than simply overwhelming him with a fiery incident and then announcing that he’d been Punk’d.
What did you think? Was it funny? Or just silly?
Punk’d airs Thursdays at 10:00 p.m. on MTV.
