EA and DICE have let loose some smoldering hot new screenshots featuring some high-octane, in-game action as well as a brief look at some of the less urban environments featured in the upcoming military FPS, Battlefield 3.

All the word around the industry, so far, has been positive for DICE’s third sequel in the direct Battlefield trilogy. New to the series is a high amount of graphical effects that actually play a part in the game’s play mechanics…such as laying down suppression fire that can stun or alert other players that they’re being suppressed, or using physics-based debris to actually immobilize or kill opposing enemies. Other neat effects include dynamic volumetric smoke, clouds and gases that can sometimes be used to help obscure vision or can be used to help setup team flanking or tactical positions.

You can scope out some of the new screenshots below, which feature environments we’ve never seen before, including forested areas and rocky, mountainside scenarios. I also love the way the tanks are moving along that hillside in the one screenshot…that would be a perfect place for an anti-artillery group to just swoop in for an ambush.

Anyway, Battlefield 3 is due out on October 25th for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. You can learn more about the game by visiting the Official Website.
