Could There Be A Superman Game Coming From Batman Devs?

Some new information has been spreading around regarding Warner Bros. possibly working on a new Superman game. The information is thin and somewhat tenuous, yet some people have begun making connections on what it might mean for a game based on the Man of Steel.

Screen Rant compiled a number of different sources together, first looking at a few different LinkedIn profiles, one of which stated that a freelancer was working on 3D facial rigging for an upcoming “Superman” game, which was originally spotted by Attack of the Fanboy.

The LinkedIn description for the freelancer was modified shortly thereafter, removing key phrases like “Superman” and that it was being worked on for “Game On Audio”. For those of you who don't know, Game On Audio is a contract company that does audio, motion capture and offers localization support for studios working on sizable games. In this case, it's likely that they may be providing Warner Bros. with motion capture resources for rigging.

One of the rumors questioned if maybe this isn't a Superman game made in the same vein as Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham titles, but it could be a sequel to Injustice: Gods Among Us. That's very unlikely given that NetherRealm Studios worked on Injustice and they seem to be heavily involved with Mortal Kombat right now. It's not impossible for them to be working on a sequel but rushing fighting games always leads to disaster and NetherRealm just came off the release of Mortal Kombat X.That's not to mention that the game has still yet to release for the Xbox 360 and PS3.

However, things steer back into the direction of it possibly being a game similar to Batman: Arkham Knight or Batman: Arkham Origins given that some of the rumors hint at the game being open-world.

For a game involving Superman it would only make sense that the game is open world. It would be difficult to get the scope of the character's abilities and powers if it were limited to corridors or walled in segments.

While the details are still sketchy around this Arkham Knight-inspired Superman game, it makes total sense for Warner Bros to pull the trigger on a project like this while the property and the characters are hot. That's not to mention that we all know a decent Superman game is possible just based on the awesome mods created for GTA IV, where gamers fly around as Superman using his heat vision, ice breath and super powers to throw things around and cause massive chaos in the city.

A game with giant, physics-based battles where Superman battles arch-villains while also attempting to save civilians would be pretty cool. A reverse mode where you play as an evil Superman could also be pretty cool, putting it in line with games like The Hulk: Ultimate Destruction.

At the moment Warner Bros. is working with Rocksteady on fixing the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight. However, once they're done helping Warner Bros., I do wonder if Rocksteady – now having finished their stint working on Batman games – would consider moving to another superhero property like Superman?
