Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition will bring the action RPG and its expansion Reaper of Souls to PS4 and Xbox One. However, Blizzard's not sure if they'll update the game at all following its launch.
"We're still working out all the details regarding if and how Ultimate Evil Edition will be supported post-launch (e.g. will we patch the game after it ships? if yes, should we only patch to fix bugs and address critical game issues, or should we patch in new content as well? at what frequency should we patch?), so we don’t have an answer for you right now," said community manager 'Grimiku' on the official Diablo 3 forums.
Grimiku was, however, able to confirm that the Ultimate Evil Edition will ship with patch 2.0.5. This update rebalances all of the player classes and fixes several bugs while also boosting the rewards of Adventure Mode. There's a good chance that Blizzard will release patch 2.0.6 on day one for some additional fixes.
"As we move closer to ship and finalize our post-launch patching plans, we’ll be sure to keep you updated. Great question, though!"
Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition will be the PS4 and Xbox One debut of the game. Blizzard also plans to release the bundle on PS3 and Xbox 360 so players on those platforms will get access to the Reaper of Souls expansion.
If Diablo 3 was no longer updated on consoles after the Ultimate Evil Edition's launch, those players could potentially miss out on a lot of new content and fixes. Blizzard's full plans for the game are unknown but they've got at least one major update in the works. Patch 2.1 will add PvP seasons along with tiered Nephalem Rifts.
Reaper of Souls is the first, and potentially only, expansion pack for Diablo 3. Reaper extends the campaign with a fifth act that takes players to new locations like Westmarch and the Blood Marshes. After they complete the campaign, they can tackle randomly generated quests and dungeons in Adventure Mode. The expansion also introduces the Crusader, a new character class that relies on their shield and holy magic in battle.
The Ultimate Evil Edition features the improvements of the original console versions like an updated user interface and new dodge ability. It also provides a few exclusive features. A new Apprentice Mode allows high-level and low-level characters to play alongside each other without issues. Players can also help friends by mailing equipment to them. A new Nemesis system allows enemies from one player's game to invade his friends' games as well.
Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition will cost $59.99 on PS4 and Xbox One. The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions are $39.99, the same price as Reapers itself on PC and Mac. Xbox 360 players will have the option to transfer characters to Xbox One. PS3 gamers can do the same for the PS4 edition.
