World Of Warships Open Beta Begins

Wargaming has already brought the fight to the land and the air and, with today’s launch of the World of Warships open beta, the battle is finally making its way to the high seas.

You read that right; World of Warships is ready to set sail, offering players from around the world a chance to control their very own floating fortress and continue the struggle for superiority in open battle on the water.

Wargaming has already made a name for itself with the highly successful World of Tanks and World of Warplanes, allowing players to compete in free-to-play battles featuring classic tanks and aircraft from the WWI/WWII era. That same formula is now being applied in Warships, with players able to register and start playing the game as of today.

All you have to do to get involved is head on over to the official site, sign up and get ready to stalk some deadly waters. For games like this, “open beta” typically means its dang-near ready for prime time, so you can expect to find most of the game’s systems already in play. You can jump in without ever paying a dime, or you can drop a few bucks here to progress in the game more quickly. There’s also a premium account available, with full details available on that sign-up page.

At launch, players will be able to get their hands on four classes of ships (80 vessels total) and wage war on 10 maps. According to Publishing Producer Jake Neri, players can expect an experience that’s been honed over the past several months through alpha and closed beta sessions, as well as that new integrated streaming.

World of Warships’ closed beta was strong out of the gate and showed no signs of slowing as players and streamers embraced the game, then took to the high seas for legendary naval combat,” Neri said in a statement from the developer. “Participation was solid and a community of passionate, dedicated players was born to help shape the game with their feedback. We can only match that by working on the game with just as much passion.”

Currently, the 80 ships on offer are of American and Japanese origin, and players will be able to utilize them in 12v12 match-ups. Battleships, destroyers, aircraft carriers and cruisers are all in the mix. Also in the lineup will be ships from the Soviet and UK lines. Sadly, it does not sound like Vikings are a playable faction.
