Borat Sequel With Borat Planned![]()
Sacha Baron Cohen isn't done chasing chickens through the New York subway system. A few weeks ago we brought you the news that he's following up the now wildly successful Borat, with a movie based on Bruno, another of his characters. The assumption at the time was, that he'd have a hard time pulling off the Borat bit now that so many people are wise to it. However, it looks like Cohen may do more Borat anyway.
VH1 was told by Borat producer Jay Roach that they are already discussing another movie starring Sacha's incredibly offensive Borat character. Roach says, "We've talked a lot about [a sequel]. We have talked about ideas to try different stuff." What those ideas are he's not saying, but if they really want to pull another movie off maybe they should consider taking the character somewhere he's not known. Third world countries; jungle nations dominated by drug cartels; Cuba. Jay Roach agrees, "There are always insulated worlds where Borat can go either on this continent or others." Roach isn't giving away the premise, but he does confirm they'll use the same style: "It would still be with as much of a long-form story and structure as we can come up with. It would be a story-based thing that has a whole three-act structure." Borat: Cultural Learnings of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan has been number one at the box office for two weeks now, and in the process has made more than $110 million worldwide. It only cost Fox $18 million to make it, so it comes as no surprise that everyone involved would be interested in making another one. The character is now a cultural phenomenon, and if they aren't there already watch for Borat t-shirts sporting anti-Semitic slogans to show up on the back of America's teenagers. Whatever kind of sequel they manage to crank out will be huge. |
