Brendan Fraser's An Alien Trapped In Escape From Planet Earth Trailer
Extraterrestrials have been a frequent visitor to movie theaters the past few years. However, when it comes to family friendly fare like Monsters Vs. Aliens, Megamind, Mars Needs Moms, and Planet 51, they generally haven't been faring too well. Monsters Vs. Aliens and Megamind both scored with critics, but the second proved a disappointment at the box office, while Mars Needs Moms and Planet 51 full-on flopped on both fronts. All this means The Weinstein Company's upcoming alien-centric animated adventure Escape from Planet Earth is one risky venture.
Cal Brunker steps up from storyboard artist to director on this film, bringing with him his experience from such dazzling animated efforts as Horton Hears a Who!, 9 and Despicable Me. Here he helms a narrative that follows a hot shot alien astronaut named Scorch Supernova (Brendan Fraser), who must depend on his brainy brother Gary Supernova (Rob Corddry) to come to his rescue when he falls into the clutches of the Dark Planet Earth.

Despite its bright colors and kid-pleasing physical comedy, Escape from Planet Earth has a deeply dark side. It's Earth is one where the government lures and captures extraterrestrials to work as slaves charged with sharing their advanced technology to create cell phones, the internet, and social networking (sadly, no hover boards). But more disturbing still, the evil thug in charge of Area 51 is planning genocide on a galactic level. But, hey, look it'll be in 3D!
Escape from Planet Earth opens February 14th, 2013.
