Courteney Cox Talks Scream 4![]()
Any news is good news when it comes to Scream 4. With all of the mini updates over the past few weeks, it’s looking more and more certain that we’ll be seeing Scream 4 and potentially Scream 5 and 6 in the near future. Most recently, the AP caught up with Courteney Cox, who spilled her Scream 4 guts. Okay, I wouldn’t go that far. I just wanted to say that.
Cox explained she’s excited to return for the fourth film. She’ll be reprising her role as the uber-abrasive reporter Gale Weathers alongside her husband, David Arquette, in the role of goofy sheriff Dewey Riley. Arquette and Cox met on the set of the first film and were married in 1999, just before the third film hit theaters. Arquette’s character proposes to Cox’s in the end of Scream 3. Joining Cox and Arquette is Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, the trilogy’s heroine. Writer Kevin Williamson, who also penned the first 2 films, recently revealed plans for the fourth. “It'll take place right now, 10 years later, and it's going to take place in Woodsboro. We'll have our three main characters, and we'll be introducing several more.” Speculating on deeper details, Cox said, “They're probably back living in Woodsboro,” Sidney Prescott’s hometown and the location of the first film. “I think that he's probably still deputy, and I've had a lot of kids. I don't know. I'm probably miserable, and then I'm sure a lot of murdering will happen.” When the New York Post questioned Williamson on Sidney’s survival potential, he explained, "The thing about Scream 4 is that there are a lot of twists and turns, so I can't promise anything. There are a lot of moving pieces, so we'll see—but if you're a Scream fan, I think you're really going to like it." As for rumors that Cox and Arquette’s characters will bite the dust early on in the fourth film, Cox simply noted “There are really only a few of us that survived” and shrugged off the rumors. Nothing too meaty to sink your teeth into, but at least we know the Scream 4 wheels are still turning. As for Cox’s plot predictions, it’s hard to imagine any kiddies being thrown into the bloodbath. And miserable? Gale seemed as happy as ever when the third film concluded. 10 years is a long time though, so anything could have happened between trilogies. Regarding Sidney’s expiration date, I doubt Williamson will do her in during the opening scene, but I’d bet she doesn’t survive the film. If Williamson still plans to have a new batch of characters carry us through the fifth and sixth film, Sidney’s going to have to move over. |
