Darth Vader Likely Suffered From Borderline Personality Disorder

Be it because he's so freaking cool or because of his final act in Return of the Jedi, Star Wars fans have always found a way to sympathize with Darth Vader. The story has always been that he was lured to the dark side by empty promises made by Darth Sidious and an inability to balance both sides of the force within him, but now psychologists are saying that the force wasn't the only cause.

In an article published by Live Science, analysts are now saying that Anakin Skywalker may have suffered from borderline personality disorder (BPD), which eventually led to his fall. This realization was made by Eric Bui, a French psychiatrist, who was looking for a way to explain the condition to medical students. According to the scientists, Vader was a match for "six out of the nine borderline personality disorder criteria as defined by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders," which include qualities such as instability of mood, thinking in extremes and an inability to develop interpersonal relationships.

Finally, we have a reason why Hayden Christensen spent all of the last two prequels either shouting or pouting, and had no chemistry with Natalie Portman. It turns out that Lucas just wanted to spread the word about BPD. Give that man a humanitarian award.
