Nearly a month before it’s scheduled to open in theaters, Need for Speed announced advanced screenings in select markets across the country… but Disney hasn’t given you much advanced warning, so you better hurry if you want to catch it early.
In a press release, the studio revealed that it will host early screenings on Wednesday, Feb. 19, on 100 screens. Even better, Need for Speed stars Aaron Paul and Scott Mescudi – as well as director Scott Waugh – will personally introduce the film via satellite in all theaters. Paul and Mescudi will also host a live Twitter Chat to talk about their film. Fans are encouraged to follow the hash tag #NFSMovie, and to follow Paul and Mescudi at @AaronPaul_8 and @ducidni, respectively, if you don’t already. Disney says that seating at each venue is limited, and RSVPs are now being accepted at www.theneedforspeedmovie.com/screenings.
But that’s not all. In addition to the film screening and the chat with the stars, audiences are encouraged to visit RaceToDeLeon.com for a chance to win a 2015 Ford Mustang and other weekly prizes leading up to the movie’s release. Basically, if you are a gear head, a Breaking Bad fan, or have a passing interest in Need for Speed, this is the screening that you want to be at.
To help get you on track for Speed, here’s the latest trailer:
And a behind-the-scenes featurette:
Need for Speed is going to strike different audience members in different ways. Some adore the video game on which it is loosely based. Others just dial into the action-driven dramas that take place in and around sexy, stylish cars. (See the entire Fast & Furious franchise as the industry’s longest-running example.) I fall into the third category of people who are curious to see what kind of a career Paul will have after Breaking Bad. I didn’t know much about him prior to that brilliant television show. I grew to love him as an actor, and I don’t want to see him pigeonholed as Jesse Pinkman… as often happens to actors who have a smash hit TV show and can’t break away.
Of course, I really want to see him as Eddie in a Dark Tower saga some day, but that’s another topic for another day.
For some, Need for Speed will screen Wednesday. For the rest, you’ll be able to see it on March 14.
