Jim Carrey And Keanu Reeves Are Making A Cannibal Love Story With Jason Momoa

It's pretty rare to see Hollywood movies about cannibals, but a rather star-studded one is now in the works - and what's more, it's apparently a love story. Titled The Bad Batch, the project added Jason Momoa to its cast last month, and now word has come down that he will be joined in the movie by Jim Carrey, Keanu Reeves, Diego Luna, and Insurgent's Suki Waterhouse.

As described by The Wrap, the project is set to be directed by Ana Lily Amirpour and is "a post-apocalyptic tale set in a Texas wasteland where a community of cannibals reside." It's noted that the love story is between Miami Man - the character played by Jason Momoa - and his food. At this stage there aren't many details available about the roles that will be played by the newcomers, but they do have some interesting character names. Waterhouse will be playing the female lead Arlen (which I kind of hope is a King of the Hill reference); Luna will be playing Jimmy; Carrey will be playing The Hermit; and Reeves will be playing The Dream.

I must admit that I'm kind of flabbergasted by this development. Upon first hearing the plot of The Bad Batch, I thought it would be Momoa leading a cast of semi-knowns and newcomers, but this bizarre sounding project has some serious acting talent behind it now. It definitely had my interest before, but now I must admit that I'm even more incredibly curious to what the draw is.

Interesting, all of the actors involved with this project are coming off of big stuff. Jason Moma is becoming the first big screen live-action version of Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice; Jim Carrey had a big hit last year with the release of Dumb and Dumber To (despite a largely negative critical response); Keanu Reeves earned raves for his performance as the titular character in John Wick; Diego Luna released his second effort as a director, Caesar Chavez; and Suki Waterhouse not only has Insurgent coming, but has also wrapped on Pride & Prejudice & Zombies.

Director Ana Lily Amirpour very recently earned massive critical acclaim for her Persian-made horror film A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night, so she has a great deal of buzz working in her favor. The Bad Batch is a co-production between Annapurna Pictures and Vice, though at this time there isn't any information available regarding either when the movie is planning to start filming, or when/how it plans on getting into theaters or on VOD. We'll keep you updated as more details about the project become available, and hopefully we won't have to wait too long to see the movie get made.
