Judge Dredd Remake Finds Funding![]()
Sylvester Stallone’s 1995 attempt to turn the Judge Dredd comics into a movie is really only noteworthy because it was the last (and only time) Rob Schneider was the best thing about a movie. That speaks volumes about just what a disaster Dredd was yet it seems like there should be some way to get something good out of what’s a fairly fun concept. We’ve known for awhile now that Alex Garland wrote a Judge Dredd remake script which has been trying to get off the ground and now it looks like it’s happening. It can’t be worse than the last one.
Deadline says DNA Films has made a deal with Reliance Big Entertainment and IM Global to finance a new, 3D Judge Dredd movie based on Garland’s script. Pete Travis, probably best known for the better than you’d think movie Vantage Point will direct. So what’s it about? Even if you’ve seen the 1995 movie, you may not know. It’s that incomprehensible. The UK comics told the story of a law enforcement officer, Dredd, in a dystopian future 122 years from now where Judges combine the powers of police, judge, jury, and executioner to enforce the law. The new movie is supposed to be more closely based on the UK comic, but then every remake says that. Obviously, Stallone won’t be back as Dredd which means finding some other muscle-bound badass to take on the character. Is The Rock done doing Disney movies yet? |
