Kristen Stewart And Nicholas Hoult Eyed For Drake Doremus' Sci-Fi Film Equals
Writer/director Drake Doremus is no stranger to pairing talented young actors and actresses, having previously made 2011's Like Crazy with Anton Yelchin and Felicity Jones, and it looks as though he'll get the chance to do so once again with his next feature. Deadline reports that the filmmaker is now gearing up to make a new sci-fi drama called Equals and that he is eying both Nicholas Hoult and Kristen Stewart to star.
While there are no current plot details available, the project is based on a screenplay by Nathan Parker, who is best known for scripting Duncan Jones' amazing 2009 film Moon. It's unclear how Hoult and Stewart will fit into the plot, but they will have a romantic tie as Deadline's report says that they will be playing a couple. The movie will be the sixth feature from Doremus, who most recently made the film Breathe In starring Felicity Jones, Amy Ryan and Mackenzie Davis.
While Stewart and Hoult don't have any previously shared credits, they both have one big thing in common: pasts with young adult fiction. The former, of course, played the female lead in one of the most popular franchises of all time, starring as Bella Swan in the Twlight saga, while earlier this year the latter played the soul-growing zombie named R in Jonathan Levine's hit adaptation of Isaac Marion's Warm Bodies. They also both began their careers at young ages, and are counted among the small number of child actors who successfully made the transition into adult roles.
Following the end of the Twilight franchise last year Stewart hasn't been in any titles in 2013, but has some big projects set up for next year. She has completed production on Olivier Assayas' Sils Maria, and Peter Sattler's Camp X-Ray. She's currently also attached to star Steven Shainberg's The Big Shoe and is expected to reprise her role as the titular warrior princess in Snow White and the Huntsman 2, but at this time it's unknown exactly when that project will be starting production.
In addition to Warm Bodies Hoult also spent the first half of this year battling giants in Bryan Singer's Jack The Giant Slayer. In 2014 he is poised to have a huge year with George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road (whenever it ends up getting an official release date), Jake Paltrow's Young Ones, Gilles Paquet-Brenner's Dark Places, and X-Men: Days of Future Past, which just released its first teaser earlier today:
Production on Equals is gearing up to start filming early next year, which means that the film could wind up being released either later in the year or in 2015.
