Los Angeles Museum Honors Harold Ramis With A Giant Stay Puft Marshmallow Man
This week the film world lost a real legend. Harold Ramis, who passed away on Monday, had a hand in some of the greatest comedies of the last half century, including Stripes, Groundhog Day, and Caddyshack, but arguably his most influential movie was the 1984 classic Ghostbusters. Paired up with Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson, Ramis helped create a pop culture monument that will live on forever - and it is the vehicle with which a Los Angeles museum is honoring the actor/writer/director's passing.
The news outlet Curbed Los Angeles has discovered that the Petersen Automotive Museum has inflated a giant Stay Puft Marshmallow Man on its roof that has been paired with a banner that reads "You came, you saw, you kicked its ass/Thank you Harold Ramis" (the banner wasn't up before the photo you see above was taken). Before you start thinking that this is completely random, the site notes that the museum currently has the original Ghostbusters' Ecto-1 Cadillac on display for a limited time as part of the Hollywood Gallery. Looking at their website, other vehicles on display include the Black Beauty from Michel Gondry's Green Hornet and the Batmobile from Tim Burton's Batman Returns.
The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, of course, is a reference to Ghostbusters' brilliant climax in which the god of destruction, Gozer the Gozerian, takes the form of whatever is on the minds of the titular team. While the Ghostbusters try and clear their minds of all thought, that plan doesn't work out too well for Aykroyd's Ray Stantz:
And just because we mentioned it, let's take a closer look at the awesomeness that is the Ecto-1, shall we?
This is a nice tribute on the part of the museum, though I can't be sure that the tribute is still up. Los Angeles has been plagued by some terrible weather for most of the day, meaning that the museum may have taken it down to preserve it. Hopefully those of you who live in the area will be able to see it before its gone. If not, there is always the looming Ghostbusters 3
