Need For Speed Looking For A Newcomer To Star
Liam Hemsworth doesn't really need a career boost right now. While his role as Gale Hawthorne in the first Hunger Games movie was pretty small, it gets a lot bigger in the sequels and he also has titles like Love and Honor, Empire State and Paranoia all completed and coming out soon. For that reason he probably isn't too crushed that his potential role in the upcoming Need For Speed movie probably won't happen.
The actor was being heavily considered for the lead role in the upcoming racing movie, but according to Deadline DreamWorks, which is making the film, is now looking to go with an unknown actor as the project's lead. Among those being considered are Brenton Thwaites and Luke Bracey. Thwaites, who hails from the same homeland as Hemsworth, Australia, may not be known in the United States just yet, but has done quite a bit of work abroad and has some exciting stuff coming up. Since 2011 he has played Stu Henderson on the long-running soap opera Home and Away and will be playing the young prince alongside Angelina Jolie in Robert Stromberg's upcoming film Maleficent. Bracey is also Australian, also had a role on Home and Away (as the character Trey Palmer) and played Riley in 2011's Monte Carlo. In July it was reported that Taylor Kitsch was also being considered for the lead role, but given that his name isn't mentioned in the latest news one can assume that's not going to happen.
Newcomer George Gatins was hired earlier this year to write the script for Need For Speed. Scott Waugh, who co-directed Act of Valor earlier this year, is on board to direct.
