X-Men: First Class Sequel Confirmed As Days Of Future Past image
If you're going to make a comic book movie, why not use material from the greatest source material available? One of the main reasons why Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy was so successful is because he took inspiration from great Batman books like The Killing Joke, The Long Halloween, and Batman: Year One. And for a few weeks it has been rumored that the same would be happening for the X-Men franchise. Back in June it was said that the upcoming sequel to X-Men: First Class would be based on one of the best storylines in X-Men history: Days of Future Past. Today we learn that rumor was true.

IGN recently had the chance to catch up with Bryan Singer, who not only served as director on X-Men and X2: X-Men United, but served as producer on First Class, and he confirmed that the title and plot of the sequel will indeed be taken from the legendary comics. "It's called Days of Future Past," Singer said. "It deals with aspects of that comic, but also some very new things." Published over two issues back in 1981, the storyline introduced an alternate future where mutants were under persecution after the assassination of a senator and giant robots called Sentinels were created to hunt down mutants. In order to try and fix the situation, Kitty Pryde (who was played by Ellen Page in X-Men: The Last Stand) mentally travels back in time so that she can warn the X-Men about the future.

You can watch the interview with Singer below.

This is really great news. X-Men fans have been waiting to see the Sentinels on the big screen ever since Brett Ratner maliciously teased them in the X-Men: The Last Stand and this could finally be the big chance. Here's hoping it will translate well.
