From some of the recent promotional videos that have arrived online, it looks like Fox is aiming for a positive approach to promoting the upcoming Season 12 of American Idol. In addition to the introduction of new judges, it looks like the next season of the popular singing competition will feature more of the enthusiastic auditioners and inspiring stories we've come to expect from the series in its earlier episodes each season.
This first promo is the more packaged of the three, featuring judges Randy Jackson, Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey and Keith Urban as they talk about true talent and dreams coming true.
The sight of the (exceptionally good-looking) waitress and forklift operator reminds us that this is a competition meant for young, undiscovered talent. And it's followed up with glimpses of some actual auditioners.
Speaking of contestants, the other two promos showcase those, the first featuring a hearing impaired singer and the second, a group of different auditioners.
It's probably only a matter of time before we get the ad that shows someone singing particularly badly, if it hasn't started circulating already. In the meantime, right now it looks like Fox is aiming to remind us that Idol is a dream-come-true for many singing hopefuls, and there's a lot of undiscovered talent out there just waiting for its chance in the spotlight. The long-running talent competition is back in a matter of weeks and with it, perhaps the next big superstar will be discovered.
American Idol Season 12 arrives Wednesday, January 16 on Fox.
