Despite his lengthy list of acting credits, I’m pretty sure Breaking Bad has conditioned me to fear Giancarlo Esposito. I suppose I’ll have to get over that as he’s set to appear in a USA pilot that’s high on my list of anticipated shows and from the sound of it, he won’t be playing a quietly-scary drug kingpin.

USA’s drama pilot Over/Under begins production in New York soon and according to TV Guide, Giancarlo Esposito has been signed on for a role in the show. The pilot stars Rescue Me’s Steven Pasquale, who plays Paul, a gambling addict who loses his job after making a majorly bad trade that costs his company millions. He and his wife Georgette (Caroline Dhavernas) pack up and move to Brooklyn, where Paul ends up teaming up with Anthony Carrigan’s character, Marino, and the two start a high-end bookie business.

TV Guide says Esposito has been cast to play Oliver, “a dry-witted and sophisticated artist who once taught Georgette and who maintains a special fondness for his former student.”

Esposito can be found on AMC's Breaking Bad these days, playing Walter White’s drug-dealing boss Gus. He has this kind of scary-calm thing going on that makes every scene he’s in tense by default, no matter what’s going on. News if Esposito’s involvement in Over/Under, added to the news that he’ll be appearing on ABC’s upcoming Once Upon A Time has me wondering if maybe Gustavo’s days are numbered. Or, perhaps Esposito’s merely looking for work between Breaking Bad seasons.
