Could Farscape be making another comeback as a TV movie? Justin Monjo, who was a writer and co-executive producer on the original series is reportedly penning a screenplay for a TV movie that would focus on the offspring of two characters from the Sci-Fi show, and the follow-up miniseries Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars.
This news comes to us from Australian site IF.com.au, which offered readers two separate updates regarding the work of Justin Monjo, one of which is that Monjo is writing a screenplay for a Farscape TV movie, which would be a spin-off of the sci-fi series, that aired on Sci-Fi from 1998 to 2002.
It's the "spin-off" mention that's key to the plot of the movie Monjo is reportedly penning, as the story would follow the son of John Crichton (Ben Browder) and Aaryn Sun (Claudia Black), who's said to have special powers which made him a target of the villainous aliens, and resulted in his parents having to hide him on Earth. John and Aaryn married at the end of the original series, which wrapped up in 2002. And then in 2004, a follow-up miniseries, titled Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars left off with the birth of D'Argo, their new baby. According to IT's report, the movie would presumably jump forward nearly two decades, as D'Argo is said to be 19 in this spinoff:
The plot follows the kid at the age of 19 when his whereabouts have been discovered and he rejoins his parents on their spaceship. Monjo says the film would be shot in Australia.
At this point, in terms of its stage of development, it sounds like it's only a screenplay-in-progress, as the site makes no mention of any production specifics or cast availability. So we'll also have to keep an ear out for updates on this news, especially in terms of where it might land Stateside. Presumably Syfy, but it may be too soon to make any assumptions about that at this point. The same would be said about the chances of a TV movie leading to something bigger, which sometimes happens on Syfy. Pure speculation. In the meantime, fans can, at the very least, cross their fingers that this project moves forward. Or not? Vote in the poll and let us know if you'd like more Farscape...
