Homeland's Marin Ireland Joins The Following

After finishing up a recurring role on Homeland, Marin Ireland is heading over to the new Fox series The Following. The drama stars Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy, and is set to premiere early in the new year. Ireland will be appearing in the ninth episode of the first season.

The Following focuses on an FBI agent (Bacon) who is brought out of retirement to pursue an Edgar Allen Poe-obsessed serial killer (Purefoy) and the group of copycat killers he has inspired. Ireland has been cast as Amanda, a woman who is sweet but simpleminded and delicate. The role is set for a one-episode appearance, but The Hollywood Reporter says it has the potential to develop into a recurring role. That may well depend on how successful the series turns out to be.

On top of this new role, Tony-nominated Ireland has signed on for a part in the untitled legal drama pilot from Richard LaGravenese and Tony Goldwyn at AMC, where she will star opposite Paul Schneider as an attorney. Prior to her five-episode arc on Homeland, the actress appeared on the recently cancelled Starz series Boss, starring Kelsey Grammar. On the feature side, the actress also has two movies on the way in the next year, Something in the Water and Glass Chin.

The Following comes from Scream writer Kevin Williamson and has been marketed as a seriously creepy psychological thriller. The premiere date is set for Monday, January 21st at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
