Mariah Carey May Take Over For Jennifer Lopez On American Idol
It’s a splashy headlines week for veteran singing competition American Idol, which saw the flashier two of its three judges depart within 24 hours of one another. While many of us will miss Jennifer Lopez’s feathery hair and Steven Tyler’s feathers in his hair, I have every confidence Idol producers will come up with a francier, shinier judging panel for Season 12. With Randy Jackson potentially on his way out, as well—come on Randy, you have 24 hours to make this thing a full-blown extravaganza—former contestant Adam Lambert has already been rumored to be a potential option, and now wacky pop star Mariah Carey may join the newest Idol crew.
Carey’s husband, Nick Cannon, already hosts rival network NBC’s hit competition show, America’s Got Talent, so Carey is not immune to the demands and trials of a show like Idol, which spends days on the road before spending weeks with contestants as they battle in live competitions. Though rumors the singing diva may sit in on the judging panel are only beginning to surface, People is reporting the 42-year-old is very much in play to earn the spot.
If she does nab the gig, she will undoubtedly take the place of Lopez, who announced she was through with the judging position on the hit show early Friday morning. If that happens, we will have traded one scantily clad diva for another, but at least the new one will have a great set of pipes.
Mariah Carey or no Mariah Carey, there are still plenty of spots to fill on the Idol panel. Check out a few other names TV Blend feels could do the trick.
